Devotion To Prayer
March 27, 2007 by Administrator.
I have come to the conclusion that prayer is the most essential thing in a quiet time for a healthy walk with the Lord. Colossians 4:2 states:
“Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with an attitude of thanksgiving;”
NASB
Throughout the New Testament I read over and over again about prayer and prayers of thankfulness. Paul continually hammers away any doubt in my mind that prayer is our strongest tool. Why do I say this? It is prayer that shows our utter dependence on the Lord. I do not mean to convey that Scripture reading is unimportant. Those are the words of God, how can they not be the foundation of Christianity? Paul demands our devotion to prayer with thanksgiving. Charles Spurgeon could not fathom going a few hours without praying. How can we? I believe we can because of pride. The feeling takes hold that we can make it on our own with the basic issues in life. When your prayer life is being neglected, so is your walk. Sometimes I feel pressured to skip the prayers, but get in my daily reading because of the lack of time. Somehow I forget that I should be devoted to prayer; not just a 30-minute spot in the 24-hour show of my day in life. Prayer should not be suppressed to a small time frame and should not be spread out for a few here-and-there words with God. I am most guilty these things. If my attitude consisted of more gratitude and humility, and my prayers were less about me and more about Him, then I might understand this amazing verse even more.
